On June 28, 2003, Harvey Pollack wore a T-shirt. Because it was late June, you likely wore one, as well. The difference between you and Harvey, though, is that Mr. Pollack has worn a T-shirt for 2,999 consecutive days since, counting Thursday, and that fateful day back in 2003. And because you, like Harvey, are good at math? You're likely realizing that Pollack will have worn a T-shirt for 3,000 consecutive days on Friday, should he decide to pull yet another T-shirt out of his drawer that morning.
Is this some sort of record? Well, yes. According to the Philadelphia 76ers, Pollack has already set a record for the most consecutive days wearing a T-shirt, and he's hoping to be recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.
And why are the Philadelphia 76ers telling us this? Because Harvey Pollack is the NBA's most heralded statistician. The Basketball Hall of Famer not only revolutionized the way the modern NBA box score is set up, but he was the one who wrote the number "100" on the piece of paper that Wilt Chamberlain famously posed with after dropping 100 points on the New York Knicks back in 1962 (a game that saw Pollack working the scorer's table). The man is an NBA legend of the highest order.
For his T-shirt legacy? He'd like a spot in the Guinness Book. From a Sixers press release:
As this feat has never been attempted before, Pollack claims to own the world record for the most consecutive days wearing a different T-shirt, and continues to break his own world record every day.
In order to keep his record intact, Pollack keeps the shirts he has worn in one room of his home, and the shirts he has not yet worn in a separate room. He also maintains an Excel spreadsheet of dates and numbers of each shirt, as well as a description of the shirts themselves.
Pollack's record is not yet in the Guinness Book of World Records, as all records must be completed events ? and Pollack has many more T-shirts to wear.
That is one unique individual, and hopefully he'll be recognized in print. Pick out a good one on Friday, Harvey.
