Richard Jefferson is really into horse racing, apparently

NBA players are really bored these days. Yes, some have sought out contracts overseas or popped up in various pro-am leagues around the country, but the majority of players are spending their time at home twiddling their thumbs and buying Tater Mitts from infomercials. (Don't do it, guys! They don't work!)

Luckily, some of those guys already have hobbies to keep them busy. Just take Spurs forward Richard Jefferson. In addition to being an athletic forward who owes much of his reputation to playing with Jason Kidd in New Jersey, RJ is really into horse racing. No, not as much as one of those overweight guys in fedoras at the track, but still quite a big fan.

In fact, he did a Q&A with the wonderful publication NTRA Thoroughbred Notebook about his love of the sport of kings. Check out a few highlights below (via Project Spurs):

What I would like to see more of in horse racing: Playoffs

What I would like to see less of in horse racing: Year-round racing

My personal best moment in the sport of Thoroughbred racing: Hitting the superfecta on Opening Day at Del Mar

Person in racing I'd like to have dinner with: Bob Baffert

There are also some more personal bits in there, but, let's face it, you only care about the ponies. That superfecta must have been something!

I learned everything I know about horse racing from the kids movie "Racing Stripes," so I can't speak to how much of an insider Jefferson appears to be. However, I do know that hobbies like this one are important, and the players' union should do everything possible to encourage their members to seek out new sports and communities while on a break from basketball.

Did you hear that, David Lee? Kronum needs a celebrity fan quite badly.
