"Um, hey, you guys? I think Blake Griffin's knee is OK." -- The Utah Jazz
We already knew that the Los Angeles Clippers' tantalizing young power forward could finish a lob, but good gravy, this gem of a one-handed catch-and-flush from the Clippers' 12-point loss to the Jazz this past Saturday night is downright obscene. Parental advisory, y'all. (Not really, but still. Oof.)
The top overall pick from the 2009 NBA Draft is averaging 17.3 points, 12.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game this preseason, shooting 59.7 percent from the floor, doing it all in just 30 minutes of nightly burn and, seemingly, making life very, very fun for the Clip Show's guards.
But while Griffin's got his backcourt beaming, he might catch screw faces from around the league — as my inimitable former boss noted Tuesday morning, the highlight show that Blake's put up already during the preseason seems set to eclipse even the most memorable moments of the lion's share of the L this year. Oh, well. Let 'em stare. Eventually, even the hardest glares will have to melt into open-hearted awe.
