Andray Blatche gets a pretty heavy amount of guff on this site (and, frankly, in most other places that discuss basketball), and you can argue that a lot of it is warranted — after all, this is a man whose career highlight reel includes some downright terrible attempts at dunking, a desperate paean to Ricky Davis and the ill-advised poking of the sports-talk bear. It's not unfair to say that Andray Blatche doesn't always make sure he presents himself as a top-shelf professional.
But that's no reason for the Washington Wizards to send him out on the court looking like a bush-leaguer, as he did when taking the floor with his name misspelled on the back of his jersey during Wednesday night's 117-94 drubbing at the hands of the Philadelphia 76ers.
The "Baltche" boner is just the latest Wiz-related uniform malfunction, coming hot on the heels of the late January tandem of Mustafa Shakur's uber-spacious numerals and Kevin Seraphin's inverted atomic shorts. Not a great stretch for the Artists Formerly Known as the Bullets. Or, for that matter, for D.C. squads in general, as Paul Lukas noted at the wonderful Uni Watch:
That makes three uni mishaps in 33 days — not bad. Well, at least they're playing really well on the cou … uh, never mind.
Toss in Ladell Betts and the Natinals and it becomes clear that DC isn't just our nation's capital — it's also become the capital of uniform snafus. As if to reinforce that point, look what reappeared the other day on the Nats' web site.
C'mon, Nation's Capital. Tighten up your sporting-garments game, will you? Ensuring that your teams look like winners on the field is the first step in the achievement of victory. Why do you think "Two and a Half Men" consistently does so well in the ratings? Obviously, it's because people respect Charlie Sheen's party shirts. And I think we'd all agree that Andray Blatche can absolutely become the "Two and a Half Men" of the NBA, if only he'd get some help from his wardrobe team.
